1970s US Western directed by Sam Peckinpah. Set at the turn of the 20th century, Jason Robards stars as frontiersman Cable Hogue, who makes his fortune after stumbling upon a freshwater spring in the middle of a stagecoach route in the desert. After buying rights to the land and naming his discovery Cable Springs, Hogue sets up a lucrative business selling water to weary travelers. However, the arrival of automobiles signals the end of Cable's livelihood and the era of stagecoach travel.
